U.S. Naval Institute
9th Annual Warfare Exposition and Symposium
September 29-30, 2004
Virginia Beach, VA
Ocean Design Booth 612
The Naval Institute Seminar Program conducts formal presentations and
spontaneous exchanges among leaders, analysts, journalists, authors, and
members. The tradition of debate and discussion of pressing military issues
goes back to the founding of the U.S. Naval Institute in 1873. Naval
officers serving at the Naval Academy in the bleak years following the Civil
War discovered the need for a forum to talk and write about the challenges
they faced. Today the Seminar Program offers an opportunity to hear
free-flowing discussion of some of the thorniest issues facing the
profession and advancing knowledge in the sea services.

Offshore Northern Seas 2004

August 24 to 27, 2004
Stavanger, Norway
Ocean Design Stand #277, Hall B
The main theme for the
2004 Offshore Northern Seas (ONS) exhibition and conference from 24-27 August
in Stavanger was "Shaping Our Energy Future". Reflecting a focus on technology
advances as well as new ideas and political trends, this slogan clearly signals
the direction of ONS 2004. It represents a natural continuation of the
principal theme adopted for this prestigious industry forum in 2002, which was
"Energising A New Generation".

ENERGY OCEAN 2004
June 28 & 29, 2004
The Breakers - Palm Beach Florida USA
ODI Booth 100
The First Focused Event on Renewable Ocean Energy in the USA
On June 28-29, 2004, the first international conference & exposition on
renewable ocean energy was held in Palm Beach, Florida. The conference
will begin an annual event that will focus on the activities offshore to
develop sustainable energy sources for the future of our civilization. It is
well-known hat the US is only now beginning to place importance on
sustainable and renewable energy sources on and around its own shores.
The goal of the event is to put US technologists and scientists together
with the international experience and marketplace. Companies involved in
Offshore Wind Power, Tidal and Current Power, Wave Power, Thermoelectric,
Solar Power, Hydrates and Bio Mass Energy, will want to attend this
conference. The conference was attended by government officials, oil
companies, and technology firms from around the world.
Ocean Design's Greg Scull, V.P. Sales & Programs of the Defense &

Offshore Technology Conference 2004

May 3 to 6, 2004
Houston, Texas
Ocean Design Booth #4709
OTC .04 marks 35 years for the offshore industry's largest annual gathering.
Founded in 1969, the Offshore Technology Conference is the world's foremost
event for the development of offshore resources in the fields of drilling,
exploration, production, and environmental protection. OTC is held annually at
Reliant Center in Houston. OTC ranks among the largest 200 trade shows held
annually in the United States and is among the 10 largest meetings in terms of
attendance. In 2003, attendance exceeded 50,000, and more than 2,000 companies
participated in the exhibition. OTC includes attendees from around the globe,
with more than 110 countries represented at recent conferences. OTC is
sponsored by 12 industry organizations and societies, who work cooperatively to
develop the technical program each year. OTC also has two endorsing
organizations and six supporting organizations.
Once again ODI has been asked to present a paper on our latest
technology. Perry Wright and Stewart Barlow have submitted an abstract,
"The Development and Application of HT/HP Fiber-Optic Connectors For Use On
Subsea Intelligent Wells: Part 2", which has been accepted for
presentation during this year's conference.
On March 12, 2004, it was announced that Ocean Design, Inc. (ODI), a leading
subsea fiber-optic and electrical connectivity company, had been chosen by
the 2004 Offshore Technology Conference for their Spotlight
on New
Technology Program.

March
16 to 18, 2004
London, England
Ocean Design Stand #148

OI attracts an international audience of policy makers, industrialists,
government representatives, decision makers, researchers, directors, managers
and manufacturers involved in every aspect of oceanography. They meet to
address the present and future trends of the industry and to view the launch of
new technologies, equipment and services.
At OI 2004,
"Connecting Long Term Sea Floor Observatories to the shore" (11 meg
Word document) was written and presented by Gary Waterworth of Alcatel Optical
Networks Division, Nazeeh Shaheen of Nautronix Maripro, and Steve Thumbeck of
ODI.
The paper delves into the subject of ocean scientists studying the deep sea for
many years while on specialist research vessels. The ocean scientists have now
started to make the transition from exploration to understanding, where a
permanent presence on the sea floor is required to monitor both sporadic
short-term events such as earthquakes and long-term trends such as global
warming.
These multidisciplinary projects require integrated industrial products such as
deep-water fibre optic cable, science instrument nodes and underwater
connectivity to ensure the cost effective flow of reliable data to and from the
sea floor. Please
download the paper here for informative reading (this is an 11 meg word
document).
