The
I-CONN single and dual-circuit wet-mateable connectors have been designed to
provide a small format optical connection system, utilizing ODI's patented
I-CONN technology. The optical junctions are taken from ODI's successful
Rolling-Seal Hybrid connector, offering a reliable and proven optical
connection with excellent optical performance. Externally, the connector uses
elastomeric barriers for sealing and pressure balancing, providing a highly
reliable mechanism in line with ODI's other products. The I-CONN is available
in a variety of shell configurations. High-temperature and high-pressure
variants are also available.
The I-CONN connector is a fully pressure-balanced connector, where both the plug
and receptacle contacts reside in sealed fluid-filled housings. During mating,
as the plug and receptacle come together, the elastomeric face seals exclude
any external fluid and trap particulate debris between the faces of the plug
and receptacle seals. Continued mating causes both seals to simultaneously
change shape, moving the trapped debris out of the mating path.This opens a
clean, compensation fluid-filled path between the plug and receptacle internal
volumes.The final mating step passes the plug contact(s) through the opening in
the seals, without touching them.The plug contact(s) then engages in the
alignment sleeve on the receptacle contact(s) and a clean face-to-face mate is
achieved. The optical contacts are never exposed to the external environment,
before, during or after mating, ensuring a long-term, low-loss, reliable
optical junction.
